OPEN SOURCE MACHINES

FOR FAB LABS

locally productive, digitally distributed machines

Your unique stop for open source machines...

... and the knowledge to build them!

We not only provide open source machines: we build them together with our customers. Our products are not just the hardware they are made of, but they include a valuable knowledge transfer to the final user of the machine. We are empowering Fab Labs, local communities and anybody interested with the required knowledge to independently build similar tools.

Not just machines, powerful learning tools

The amount of knowledge packed in a single machine offers an unique learning experience because of the wide range of skills. From 3D printing, to laser cutting, to CNC milling, to electronics production and design, a machine building workshop opens up to the user a whole universe of new possibilities, well exceeding the value itself of the hardware.

Researched design replicability

Building digital fabrication machines requires different skills and equipment. But a quite different research from the production environment is required to let others replicate their designs. Combining community and practical aspects, our research focus on how to low the barrier for anyone to build our machines. This includes research about currently used Open Hardware paradigms, assembly instruction, usability, materials sourcing, required tools and user perception.

Setting new standards for Open Source Machine Building

Our machines have been developed considering as goals to improve current open source machines capabilities and to lower the barrier for anybody to access digital fabrication tools. This joint mixture has created machines able to set new standards in the Open Source world. Examples of such are BigFDM, the largest certified Open Source 3D printer, and LaserDuo, the first open source laser cutter that integrates two different lasers sources.

Fab Lab tailored services

Building open source machines is tightly coupled with several services around Fab Labs. Ranging from Fab Academy mentoring, to focused training, to machine procuring, to Fab Lab setup and assessment, we will help you out for any of the needs of your Fab Lab. Also, we have provided Fab Labs with several open source designs for electronics and drones.
